Following the huge success of the Xiaomi Mi Drone 4K, and the recent market launch of a FIMI A3 range, Xiaomi expanded its offering with the missing drone: the FIMI X8 SE.

This is the model that can be a clear alternative to what DJI offers in its Mavic line.
FIMI is one of many companies that integrate the ecosystem of Xiaomi. The FIMI X8 SE is then a drone with features long sought after by the followers of the brand. It is a compact, foldable drone and, moreover, presents itself as a possible alternative to DJI’s Mavic series. There is undeniably a strong inspiration in DJI. If the appearance and design of this drone already leave a good first impression, the characteristics are not far behind. In this way, it brings mouth-watering characteristics, unbeatable within the range in which it is inserted.
Xiaomi FIMI X8 SE Camera
Beginning with image capture, the FIMI X8 SE comes equipped with a camera capable of recording 4K (3840 × 2160) video at 30 fps, QHD (2560 × 1440) at 60 fps, 1080p at 100 fps or 720p at 200 fps, with a maximum bitrate of 100 Mbps, and capable of taking pictures with 12 MP.
It also has a lens with a 78.8 “FOV and f2.2 aperture, and a 1 / 2.3” Sony CMOS sensor. As might be expected, stabilization is achieved through a 3-axis gimbal, with rotation on the horizontal axis from 0 ° to -90 °.
Other features
In terms of flight characteristics, the FIMI X8 has a GPS + GLONASS positioning system. In this way it can be controlled up to 5000 m, with a maximum speed of 18 m / s (horizontal displacement). The maximum climb speed is 5 m / s and the descent is 4 m / s.
Also announced are an impressive 33 minutes of autonomy, at a constant speed of 8 m / s. This is achieved by a 4500 mAh / 51.3 Wh battery, undoubtedly an excellent brand.
The FIMI X8 SE has dimensions of 204 x 106 x 72.6 mm (when closed), with a diagonal of 372 mm and a weight of 790 g. It is unclear whether this weight includes or not the battery, which weighs about 275 g. However, confirming the 790 g with battery, is a very interesting value, given that the new legislation. That is, insurance is required for drones weighing more than 900g.
As it should not be missing, there are several automatic flight modes, which allow for easy image capture. Thus, cinematic movements, intelligent ways of tracking objects or people, flight planning, panoramic photos or hyperlapse are possible.
Remote control
As far as remote control is concerned, the approach is interesting. They did not choose to use a FIMI A3-like controller with a built-in display, and they also did not “copy” the design of the DJI controls to their compact drones. They chose to present a solution where the screen is right in the center of the remote control. That way, the structure “stretches” to leave room to fit a smartphone or an 8 “tablet.
The controls are the usual, especially the removable sticks, as are the DJI remote controls.
Once again, Xiaomi brings to the market equipment with medium range price, but with features that allow it to compete in the high range. To confirm the characteristics announced by the brand, and maintaining the quality to which the products according to Xiaomi have accustomed us, this drone will be a strong competitor to the current market leaders, with an unbeatable quality-price ratio.
