At the “2020 China Telecommunications Institute ICT In-depth Observation Report” held today, Wang Zhiqin, deputy dean of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, introduced the situation around the 5G platform.
According to the report, compared with the first year of 5G commercialization, the first 5-G commercial development speed, beyond 4G, is gorgeous. On the one hand, the number of networks will reach 65, and the number of terminals will exceed 200. Therefore, the number of base stations will also exceed 1 million by the end of the year. Accordingly, the number of users is going to exceed 10 million, which greatly much more than the expected development rate, on the other hand.
The global 5G business process is accelerating in 2019.
So the 5G commercialization has been implemented in 32 countries/regions worldwide. The United States, South Korea, China, and Europe have received widespread attention. The United States and South Korea were the first to launch in April this year. It is actively following up, mainly focusing on 27 operators in 16 countries.
Today, the United States and South Korea’s 5G development situation has shown very different results. On the one hand, South Korea relies on 3.5GHz to build a commercial network and launch 5 G + AR / VR-based services. As of now, South Korea has built more than 90,000 base stations and the number of users has exceeded 4 million. On the other hand, in the United States millimeter waves are dominating, and 5 G coverage has very limited usage. It is dominated by fixed wireless access services, and 5G users are undersized.
Overall, 5G is still in its infancy. The business is mainly based on mobile broadband enhancement scenarios and some countries adopt fixed wireless access scenarios. Besides, industry application development is in the initial exploration stage, especially in the fields of the medical and industrial Internet.
