The redesigned Apple Maps service has been launched throughout the United States. It is for provide users with more accurate navigation and “comprehensive views” of roads, buildings, and shopping malls.
Apple announced last year that it would rebuild its mapping application from scratch by dispatching hundreds of aircraft and cars equipped with custom sensors lidar. This new application debuted in December 2018. It has been launched nationwide as of Thursday.
Apple says the new Apple Maps will land in Europe in the next few months. It will appear in other countries including Canada, Australia and Germany.

During the redesign process, Apple added some features that Google Maps has already provided. Among them are quickly saving locations under Favorites and using interactive Street View, which Apple calls “looking around.” Street-level navigation is currently available in New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas, Oahu, Houston, and Los Angeles. It will eventually include other locations.

In addition, there is a feature called “collection” in Apple Maps to help users create and share a list of their favorite places.
The “Super Bowl” will be held in Miami on February 3. Before that, the city will also get real-time traffic on Apple Maps. It can show bus and train locations and arrival and departure times. Apple says that over time, the company will expand real-time traffic capabilities to more cities.
Apple also emphasized the privacy features of the map. It includes keeping certain user data for processing on the device instead of connecting to the cloud. The company said that the data collected by the map is random. The app doesn’t keep a history of where users have been.
