Apple Still Dominates The Global Premium Smartphone Market

The latest report from market research agency Counterpoint Research has announced. In the third quarter of this year, Apple accounted for more than half of the high-end machine market above $ 400. The company accounted for 52%, an increase from 48% in the same period last year. The market shares of Samsung and Huawei ranked second and third with 25% and 12%, respectively.

However, in China’s high-end smartphone market, Huawei far surpasses Apple. Benefiting from Huawei Mate 30 and P30 and other models, Huawei has occupied more than 80% of China’s smartphone market. This rank is higher than 73% in the same period last year.

Counterpoint statistics also show that user demand for smartphones in the $ 600 to $ 800 range has risen significantly. It has risen from 31% of high-end devices in the third quarter of last year to 43% this year. The main driving force is Apple ’s iPhone XR. The demand for these smartphones in the $ 400 to $ 600 range fell sharply from 42% in the same period last year to 24%. The demand for smartphones priced between $ 800 and $ 1,000 has also increased, accounting for 21% of the market. The main driving factor is Samsung’s Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series smartphones.

The report also shows that the market price of smartphones in the third quarter has increased by an average of 5%. This situation is caused by the current launch of 5G smart phones. In the 5G smartphone market, Samsung, LG and Vivo rank in the top three, accounting 74%, 11% and 5%, respectively. Xiaomi founder Lei Jun also said earlier that Xiaomi will launch at least ten 5G smartphones next year. At present, Apple has not released any 5G smartphones. However, there are analytical data predicting that the iPhone 11 will drive the company’s global sales in the fourth quarter.
