In response to the recent media reports that Xiaomi Group intends to enter the electric car manufacturing industry, Xiaomi Group issued an announcement. It stated that Xiaomi has been paying attention to the development of the electric car ecology and is conducting continuous evaluation and research on the trend of related industries.
At the same time, Xiaomi Group stated in the announcement that the research on the electric car manufacturing business has not yet reached the formal project stage.
Recently, according to “LatePost” report, Xiaomi has determined to build a car and regards it as a strategic decision. But the specific form and path have not yet been determined, as there are still variables. The report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Lei Jun may lead the Xiaomi car project.
Lei Jun said in 2015 that he would not build a car in three to five years. But at present, the ceiling of the smartphone industry is beginning to appear. According to the quarterly tracking report of IDC, China’s smartphone market shipments in the fourth quarter of 2020 are about 86.4 million units, a slight increase of 0.3% year-on-year. The overall shipment volume in 2020 is about 326 million units, down 11.2% year-on-year, and Xiaomi ranks fourth.
Not Only Xiaomi But Others Want To Enter Electric Cars Market

Anyways, it turns out Xiaomi Group has 834 patents related to automobiles. According to data from Innovation and Intellectual Property SAAS service provider Wisdom Bud, more than 96% of the invention patents related to Xiaomi’s automobile patents are currently concentrated in wireless communication networks, electronic digital data processing, digital information transmission, and image communication.
