Google Pixel XL Generation Mobile Phone Stops Security Update Support

Google Pixel XL phones may have reached a safe stop support period. Google today releases an update to its Pixel device. It includes the November security update and some updates for general quality of life. Google Pixel 2, 3 and 4 series devices can receive OTA updates. However, Google Pixel did not receive updates in the first generation.

Google is commits to providing only three years of security updates and two years of software updates for its Pixel line of phones, which is normal market behavior. But the reason for the confusion is that Google decides to extend Android 10 support to the Pixel first generation. It seems that users want to extend the same support to the security update guarantee, but this is not the case.

While Google Pixel and Pixel XL users can get three years of promised support, support time in the Android world is not short, but Apple usually provides up to five years of updates for older iPhone devices.
