Xiaomi Aims To Be Number One In Europe

At the Xiaomi Developer Conference held today, Xiaomi Chairman and CEO Lei Jun delivered a speech. He quoted IDC recently released data saying that Xiaomi’s smartphone market in the third quarter of this year returned to the top three in the world. Moreover, Xiaomi’s R&D investment is increasing year by year. And Xiaomi’s goal is to rank first in Europe in the next few years.

On October 30, two major market research institutions, IDC and Canalys released corresponding reports. They showed that Xiaomi’s smartphone shipments ranked third in the third quarter of 2020, surpassing Apple. And Xiaomi’s smartphone market share accounted for 13.1%.

Lei Jun also said today that Xiaomi will continue to increase R&D investment in the future. At present, Xiaomi has more than 10,000 R&D personnel and will recruit 5,000 engineers in 2021. Ten key areas for recruitment include camera imaging technology, screen display technology, and fast charging, wireless charging technology, loT platform, and connection technology. Moreover, it includes AI and voice intelligent interaction technology, 5G, 6G communication standard technology, big data, and audio technology. On the other hand, there will be updates concerning information technology and process management system technology, intelligent manufacturing equipment, and system integration technology.

3 development principles

We have learned that Lei Jun has revealed that Xiaomi has established three development principles.

  • to do a good job in China’s business, and to promote the further development of the entire Chinese business;
  • to unswervingly Globalization, the goal is to rank first in Europe in the next few years. The next goal is to prove that Xiaomi can also achieve globalization success in developed countries;
  • we must pursue localization in globalization.

Lei Jun once called out the goal of “10 quarters for Xiaomi to return to China’s No. 1 position” in the first quarter of 2018, which has not yet been achieved.
