Kirin 810 Won’t Be Additional Pressure On Supply Chain

Honor has announced that it will release the Honor 9X smartphone on July 23. It’s the direct successor of the previous-gen Honor 8X sold in 15 million units. The stylish look and the triple-camera are not the only selling points of the upcoming flagship. Probably, you have heard it will be packed with a Kirin 810 chip. The latter is the second 7nm chip of Huawei. Also, it’s the world’s fourth chip based on this technology node.

Xiong Junmin, vice president of Honor business department, stressed that the Kirin 810 is the fourth 7nm flagship mobile chip. Also, it forms the first echelon of mobile chips with Kirin 980, Snapdragon 855, and Apple A12. The Kirin 810 adopts the most advanced 7nm process in the world. It consists of two high-performance large cores (Cortex A76) + six energy-efficient small cores (Cortex A55). The CPU is clocked at 2.27GHz. The SoC integrates the custom Mali-G52 GPU, and Kirin Gaming+ technology.

In terms of AI, the Honor 9X’s Kirin 810 processor can greatly increase the AI power per unit area with the self-developed DaVinci architecture NPU. This will fully stimulate the computing potential of the end-side AI. The Kirin 810 will have a very broad imagination in the AI application experience.

Considering that last year’s Honor 8X series sales exceeded 15 million units, the goal of the Honor 9X will not be lower than this. It is not impossible to get 20 million shipments. But this will also be great pressure on the supply chain. Do you remember what happened with the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro smartphones? Because of the shortage, the phone began getting negative feedback.

Regarding this concern, Honor said that there is no need to worry about it. ‘The 7nm Kirin 980 product has been on the market for more than half a year. You can see that the supply is completely good. So the supply of the Kirin 810 is no problem. However, we will increase the supply, because it is obvious that the Honor 9X will be an explosion.’
