According to South Korean media TheElec, Samsung Display will produce flexible OLED panels for folding screens for Xiaomi, VIVO, and Google. These companies are expected to launch folding screen smartphones in the fourth quarter.
By the way, Google is preparing a 7.6-inch folding screen smartphone called ‘Pixel Fold’. Regarding VIVO, media expects that the brand’s folding screen phones will have an 8-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch external screen. Among them, the folding inner screen will be manufactured by Samsung’s A3 production line in South Korea, and the outer screen will be manufactured by BOE’s factory in Chengdu. Samsung Display is also expected to produce screens for Xiaomi’s next-generation folding screen phones. Also, Huaxing Optoelectronics will manufacture secondary screens.
Xiaomi has already launched its first folding screen smartphone called the MIX Fold at the end of March. The phone is priced at 9,999 yuan ($1563). It comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip and Xiaomi’s self-developed Surge C1 image chip. This phone has an 8.01-inch internal screen and a 6.52-inch external screen.
The OPPO X 2021 scroll screen concept machine has been unveiled at the end of 2020. It had a 7.7-inch main screen. OPPO previously announced that it is co-developing panels with Samsung, BOE, and Visionox.
Samsung’s own folding screen smartphone Galaxy Z series sold about 2.5 million units in 2020.
