On April 22, some sources reported that Xiaomi is developing a foldable smartphone, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip.
According to XDA reports, as the display technology matures and production costs fall, it is expected that more and more smartphone manufacturers will join the foldable screen array.
At present, foldable screen smartphones are roughly divided into two options. One is the Galaxy Z Flip, which looks like a flip phone. And the other is the Galaxy Fold, which is a tablet phone after expansion.

XDA also quoted sources as saying that Samsung Display will provide flexible OLED panels for it. It is reported that Xiaomi may also purchase foldable flexible OLED panels from LG Display.
The report pointed out that the quality of the flexible OLED panels produced by BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics is not as good as that of Samsung Display. This is an important reason for Xiaomi to choose Samsung Display.
The source said that Xiaomi’s clamshell foldable smartphone is expected to begin mass production in the second half of 2020. It is still uncertain about the specifications, price and supply of Xiaomi’s clamshell foldable smarthone, but it is certain that it will have a flagship configuration. So we are expecting to see the Snapdragon 865 flagship platform, LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 flash storage and so on.
The price of folding smartphones is generally more than 10,000 yuan ($1411). So Xiaomi’s folding screen smartphone is not expected to be cheap.
