Xiaomi’s New Smartphone Patent Seems To Be Used In Mi MIX 4

It has been more than two years since the release of Mi MIX 3. So it’s logical we are eagerly waiting for the Mi MIX 4. Honestly, the Spring festival was the event we had been waiting for the Mi MIX 4 to debut. But it didn’t happen.

Today, LetsGoDigital showed Xiaomi’s patent for a full-screen smartphone design. The front of the phone has a full-screen without a notch, and there is no camera opening on the back.

From the patent design, we see that when sliding the phone screen to the left, the front hidden camera on the right side of the fuselage and the rear camera on the back of the fuselage will appear. Swiping the screen to the right will reveal the secondary screen on the left side of the fuselage.

There are three circles on the left side of the front. This should be a single-camera or dual-camera design, plus a flash or sensor. There are four circles on the back of the fuselage, which should correspond to a three-camera + flash design.

The interesting point is that there is also a long strip of secondary screen on the left side of the front. It should not be accidentally used to display information such as commonly used applications, message notifications, etc. But the strange thing is that when the secondary screen is turned on, the camera module doesn’t appear. So it cannot be used as a secondary viewfinder screen for selfies. There is already a larger main screen on the front, and the position of this secondary screen is very strange and incomprehensible.

This patent was filed by Xiaomi on January 13, 2021 and announced on May 14. The function includes three different design options, including a version that only supports left sliding, a version that only supports right sliding, and at the same time a version that supports the double-sided sliding cover, which is very interesting.

Xiaomi’s last sliding phone is the Mi MIX 3, will the Mi MIX 4 continue to follow the sliding cover path? Looking at these patents, we can say there is a high possibility for this.

But we should also remember that Xiaomi has suffered a loss on the Mi MIX 3 and it is unlikely to repeat the same mistakes. Moreover, the Mi MIX 4 is more likely to adopt under-screen camera technology and become Xiaomi’s first under-screen camera phone.
