This afternoon, Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s global vice president and head of Xiaomi’s India business, announced on Twitter that the POCO brand is independent.

Manu Kumar Jain said, ‘Excited to share: POCO will now be an independent brand! What started as a sub-brand within Xiaomi, has grown into its own identity. POCO F1 was an incredibly popular phone. We feel the time is right to let POCO operate on its own.’
As a reminder, Xiaomi POCO released its flagship smartphone the Pocophone F1 in New Delhi, India on August 22, 2018. The phone is mainly available in the international market and is not for sale in mainland China.
Many users think that the independence of the POCO brand means that the next-generation products of the POCO series are about to debut. It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi previously applied for the POCO F2 trademark, suggesting that Xiaomi’s next-generation product POCO F2 is on the way.

At present, the specific operation of the POCO brand after independence is unknown. But when taking into account the strong performance of the first-gen handset, the second model will also provide similar performance. Two years ago, the POCO F1 was the cheapest Snapdragon 845 smartphone. That time, this was the most powerful flagship mobile platform in the Android camp. The Snapdragon 865 has been already announced. So if the POCO F2 comes in the next months, there is every reason to think it will be the cheapest Snapdragon 865 smartphone.
