Today, Qualcomm officially launched the Snapdragon 855 Plus mobile platform. Interestingly, there has been no news or rumor concerning this chip. But it’s real and we should wait for new models packed with this chip. However, for a regular user, it’s quite important to learn about the core improvements of this SoC. This will help us decide whether we need to replace our current handsets.

The original Snapdragon 855 was launched in December 2018. This is currently the most powerful chip designed by Qualcomm for smartphones and tablets. In the past six months or so, we have seen it appear in many flagship phones. Moreover, this is the main chip used in gaming smartphones.
As the manufacturer claims, the new Snapdragon 855 Plus has two main upgrades:
The CPU’s large core (Kryo 485 CPU) clock speed has been increased from 2.84GHz to 2.96GHz.
It still integrates the Adreno 640 GPU, but the performance has been increased by 15%.
The Snapdragon 855 Plus can support higher performance and leading game experience. The SoC integrates the fourth generation of multi-core artificial intelligence engine. The latter can bring faster response and supports more than 7 trillion operations per second (7TOPs).
Qualcomm has also improved the XR experience. Once the XR headphone is connected to a mobile terminal equipped, which is packed with the Snapdragon 855 Plus and the Opteron X50 5G modem, you can enjoy the immersive XR experience (AR/VR experience) and get a fast and smooth 5G experience.
Finally, the first equipment sporting the Snapdragon 855 Plus is expected to be available in the second half of 2019.
