Redmi K40 Powered By Snapdragon 870 Chip Announced

Today, Xiaomi’s sub-brand held a new product launch conference and announced a few much-awaited models, such as the Redmi K40 series smartphones, a new giant-size TV, new Bluetooth headphones and provided some useful information concerning the brand’s performance.

However, the Redmi K40 was in the spotlight. So let’s get acquainted with every key feature of this series.

Redmi K40 Design

The front of the Redmi K40 uses a center-mounted punch-hole straight screen. The back uses a rounded rectangular outline three shots. The company provides three colors of fantasy, clear snow, and bright black.

Although it is equipped with a large 4520mAh battery, the body of the K40 is still ultra-thin at 7.8mm and a weight of 196g. The manufacturer also said it may be a lighter and thinner flagship machine with a battery of 4500mAh or more this year.

In other details, the center-mounted hole has a diameter of only 2.76mm, the smallest aperture in the world. It also has a 3.3mm ultra-narrow chin, and the double-sided Corning fifth-generation Gorilla Glass.

It also features a 6.57-inch AMOED screen. The latter comes with an E4 luminescent material, and is known as the best straight screen. Compared with the previous material, the luminous brightness is higher. The peak brightness of the screen can reach 1300nits, the global brightness is 900nits, and the contrast ratio is up to 5 million:1. At the same time, it saves more power and can last 1 hour longer.

In other aspects, the screen of the K40 series also supports DCI-P3 color gamut, MEMC motion compensation, 8192-level brightness adjustment and so on.

In terms of refresh rate, the Redmi K40 series uses a 120Hz high refresh screen, the touch sampling rate is 360Hz, and supports super-resolution touch technology.

It is worth mentioning that the screen of each K40 series smartphone has realized the primary color screen adjustment, reaching the level of professional display, and firstly supports the True Tone technology of ambient color temperature, which can change the color temperature according to the ambient temperature.

Redmi K40 Performance

The Redmi K40 sports the Snapdragon 870 pseudo-flagship chip. In AnTuTu, it scored 691,359 points, a performance jump of 100% compared with the previous generation K30 (Snapdragon 765G).

The Snapdragon 870 Android CPU performance is the top three in the world; the Android graphics performance is the top four in the world; the AI performance is the fourth in the world, surpassing the Snapdragon 865. At the same time, it supports LPDDR5 + UFS3.1 + WiFi 6.

Simply put, the Snapdragon 870 is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 865 Plus, and it is also a second upgraded version of the Snapdragon 865.

The overall specifications of the Snapdragon 870 are consistent with those of the Snapdragon 865 Plus. The main change is the use of an enhanced Kryo 585 CPU core. One of the super-large cores has a clocked frequency of up to 3.2GHz, which is 100MHz higher than that of the Snapdragon 865 Plus and 360MHz higher than that of the Snapdragon 865.

The Snapdragon 870 chip is manufactured with a 7nm process and integrates a large core + three middle cores + four small core CPUs. The GPU adopts Adreno 650, equipped with FastConnect 6800 wireless subsystem, Spectra 480 ISP, Hexagon 698 DSP, and can be externally connected to Snapdragon X55. The 5G baseband supports 5G Sub-6GHz and millimeter wave frequency bands that are truly facing the global market, with a maximum download rate of 7.5Gbps and a maximum upload rate of 3Gbps.

It supports the fifth-generation AI engine, with 15 trillion operations per second and lower power consumption.

Redmi K40 Other Features

The Redmi K40 has been upgraded specifically for the gaming experience. In addition to being equipped with the Snapdragon 870 flagship processor, it also has a comprehensive upgrade for vibration and sound effects.

Wang Teng first introduced the Redmi K40’s sound system. The whole system comes with stereo dual speakers as standard. The combination of the two-in-one speaker on the top earpiece and the super linear speaker on the bottom forms a stereo field.

In addition, the Redmi K40 comes with Dolby Atmos for the first time. Also, it supports Dolby decoding (AC3, AC4), Dolby Atmos audio, intelligent scene enhancement and other Dolby audio technologies.

It breaks the traditional sound channel concept, makes each sound loud/small, loud/quiet, concentrated/dispersible, and locates it in a virtual three-dimensional space. So it can easily realize the listening position and help the game experience upgrade.

At the same time, the Redmi K40 is also equipped with an X-axis linear motor as standard. The latter brings more agile and hand-like vibration feedback in scenes such as games and typing.

Many optimizations have been made for the game scenes and upgraded to 4D Vibration 2.0. This makes the interactive feedback in each scene more direct and three-dimensional.

It is worth mentioning that Redmi K40 has also customized “Peace Elite” to make shooting, driving, explosions and other scenes more realistic, realizing a full range of three-dimensional interactions, and the game experience is better than before.

Redmi K40 Battery

Nowadays, smartphone batteries are getting bigger and bigger, and the charging power is getting higher and higher. The latest flagship smartphones have basically broken through the 50W fast charge, which can charge the phone in 1 hour.

As said, the Redmi K40 comes with a battery capacity of 4520mAh and supports 33W charging power. But the manufacturer said that its charging speed is comparable to 55W and 66W.

The Redmi K40 series uses MI-FC fast charging technology, a new generation of high-efficiency charging IC, MMT pole ear center point core and other technologies. The charging speed surpasses many higher power fast charging on the market.

The official video released by Redmi shows that it only takes 50 minutes and 12 seconds to fully charge the Redmi K40. It is even 28 seconds faster than the friend’s 66W.

Redmi K40 Camera

The main module is built around the Sony IMX582, which is a couple of generations behind. It’s a relatively small 1/2” sensor with 48MP resolution and 0.8 µm pixels, sitting behind an f/1.8 aperture. There is also an 8MP secondary camera and a 5MP tele-macro camera.

Video recording is capped at a disappointing 4K/30 fps, even though the S870 chipset is capable of 8K/30 fps (and 4K/60 fps). The slow-motion mode and the selfie camera match the other two phones.

Price

The price did not disappoint us. The Redmi K40 offers four versions, the prices are: 6+128GB 1999 yuan ($310), 8+128GB 2199 yuan ($341), 8+256GB 2499 yuan ($387), 12+256GB 2699 yuan ($418).
