According to Letsgodigital, a new design patent for a Sony controller has recently been revealed. The controller will feature a larger screen. It will also detect fingerprints and heart rate.
Sony Corporation applied for a “information output system and method” patent to the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) on July 24, 2019. This patent was officially released four months later. Letsgodigital has also produced a rendering. It shows more details of this product.

In terms of appearance , Sony’s new handle adopts a more square design. It comes with sharp edges and corners. It has a D-pad area, four control buttons, and two shoulder keys with a large LCD display in the middle.

According to the patent, this handle is special. Surprisingly, it has a fingerprint sensor. Heart rate monitor can detect the player’s fingerprint and heart rate. According to the patent, the controller has memory storage. It can connect to the Internet and Bluetooth. But not only that, it is capable to connect other devices, such as a PC and a smart TV. The display lists a range of options. The player can watch TV, play a game or check the email. The device adopts a gyroscope and an acceleration sensor. These can detect three directions. If you tilt the device to the right, the point of view will then turn to the right – and vice versa.

We are not 100% sure, when the PS5 with the new Sony controller will be introduced. However, it might officially come on November 20, 2020 in North America. In addition to the launch date, the PlayStation5 might cost $499. The date and also the price was shared in a tweet by PSErebus: “Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will launch PlayStation5 (PS5™) in several countries in the holiday season of 2020 and will make PlayStation5 (PS5™) available in North America on November 20, 2020 at a recommended retail price (RRP) of $499”.
