A few days ago, Redmi officially held a new product launch conference online. In addition to smartphones, two important new products of RedmiBook laptops were also released. The RedmiBook uses the ‘Pro’ suffix for the first time. Now, it has high-end features, but the price starts at only 4499 yuan ($695). We got the RedmiBook Pro with a 15-inch screen. Its biggest selling point is the high-resolution 3.2K screen.
RedmiBook Pro Appearance
When you get it in hands for the first time, you will immediately understand that it is made of metal. The whole shell of the machine adopts CNC cutting process, which is stronger than the traditional metal stamping process. Plus, the seams and overall workmanship texture is better. The hand feel is more delicate and the degree of integration is higher. The RedmiBook Pro also has a slight chamfer at the edge of the fuselage.

The front of the RedmiBook Pro is very simple. The silver aviation aluminum alloy surface uses a ceramic sandblasted metal anodizing process. There is an etched Redmi logo and slogan in the upper and lower center on the left side. Nothing else we can see on it.

The hinge adopts an integrated design. Although the part seen after opening the screen is black, the overall damping and the flatness of the back are relatively good. We can see that the RedmiBook Pro really wants to emphasize the quality of the body.

It supports one-handed opening and closing, and the maximum opening and closing angle is 150 degrees. When you open the screen, you can see that the screen of RedmiBook Pro adopts a 3-sided narrow bezel design. Although the bottom bezel is slightly wider, it is acceptable.

The camera is on the top center area. The bottom carries a bright silver Redmi logo.

In terms of screen, the RedmiBook Pro uses a 15.6-inch display with 3200×2000 resolution, 16:10 ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, 100% sRGB color gamut matte display for the first time. It also comes with a high screen-to-body ratio of 89% and a full viewing angle of 178 degrees, hardware DC dimming and TUV Rheinland hardware low blue light certification. Judging from the basic parameters, the screen quality is indeed extraordinary.

Through the AIDA64 query, we can find that the manufacturer prefix of this screen is TMX, and the model is TL156MDMP01-0. There is no search result on Panelook. We guess it is a customized screen of Tianma.

We have further tested its color gamut performance with the help of a professional color calibrator. The measured screen covers 97.3% of sRGB, 69.1% Adobe RGB and 71% of DCI-P3 color gamut, which is a high-color performance with better performance. This is also one of the few models that uses 3.2K + 16:10 + 90Hz high refresh rate on 15-inch office ultrabooks.

Such a high-quality screen has great help and advantages for content creators and large-screen audio-visual entertainment experiences. The RedmiBook Pro system also comes with a screen color temperature adjustment function. You only need to find the display effect in the desktop right-click menu. In the pop-up service center software, you can customize the screen color temperature, adjust the screen zoom ratio and resolution size and other parameter options.

In the advanced display settings, you can also choose to use a 60Hz or 90Hz refresh rate. Users can lower the refresh rate to improve battery life when going out.

Тhe whole body is processed by the same CNC process. The keyboard part adopts a sunken design and a scissor foot structure; the keycaps are spaced relatively large, and there is an independent Xiao Ai voice assistant button on the top right side; the arrow keys are used Standard key size.

The keycap is the mainstream chocolate keycap, with a 1.5mm keystroke and supports 2-level backlight adjustment. The overall percussion feel is quite satisfactory and the feedback intensity is moderate.

The circular power button is placed in the upper right corner. It supports Windows 10 Hello fingerprint recognition login.

The touchpad has a large area and is placed in the center. The four corners have smaller arcs and look more square. The pressing area is made of metal material, and the touch is smooth and delicate. The palm rest part is made of anodized aluminum alloy with integrated cutting, which is not easy to be contaminated with fingerprints.

In terms of fuselage interface, the RedmiBook Pro adopts two-sided opening design. There is a USB-C on the left side, which supports charging and data transmission, a power indicator, an HDMI1.4 interface, a USB2.0 Type-A interface and a Thunderbolt 4 protocol USB-C interface.

On the right, we have a USB3.2 Type-A interface and 3.5mm audio interface. Among them, the Thunderbolt 4 interface is the biggest highlight. It not only fully supports charging, high-speed data transmission and video output in terms of functions, but also supports 1080P/240Hz, 4K/60Hz, dual-channel 4K video output or single-channel video output in terms of video output.

The design of the back is quite satisfactory. The surface has 8 screws, 2 sets of oval rubber feet, 2 regular long air outlets and 1 set of speaker openings on both sides of the bottom. There is also a sticker with various product certifications and functions in the middle. Where is the air inlet? Of course it is inside the shaft on the back. In general, the design of the RedmiBook Pro emphasizes the texture and workmanship of the body, giving people a solid and reliable feeling.

RedmiBook Pro Configuration and Performance

The RedmiBook Pro uses the latest Intel Core 11th generation standard pressure processor. The specific hardware specifications are as follows:
- Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce MX450;
- Memory: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz, onboard particles;
- Hard disk: 512GB PCIe M.2 solid state hard disk;
- Battery: 70Wh capacity, support 100W PD fast charge;
- Others: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, Xiao Ai voice assistant, Raiden 4.

We can see that with the help of the 11th generation Core processor, the characteristics of the Thunderbolt 4 interface can be fully utilized, and the it adopts the core of the standard voltage specification. More attention is paid to the performance of productivity. The graphics card uses the MX450 GPU, which can meet some mild gaming and audio-visual entertainment needs.

There is also a small highlight that supports 100W PD fast charging, and you can choose a smaller power adapter when you go out.

In the CineBench R15 test, the i5-11300H scored 208 in single core and 977 in multi-core; in the test of CineBench R20, it scored 546 in single-core and 2148 in multi-core. Among them, in the CineBench R20 test, compared with the 10-generation Core models, the multi-core performance has increased by about 11%, and the single-core performance has increased by up to 24%.

The MX450 is currently the latest generation of discrete graphics cards on thin and light notebooks. The power consumption range opened by NVIDIA to manufacturers is between 12W-28W. There are 12W ultra-low power version, 25W standard power version and 28W high power consumption version. All versions use GDDR5, GDDR6 video memory types. We simply tested the performance of 3D Mark to see which version of MX450 on RedmiBook Pro belongs to.

In the Time Spy test of 3D Mark, the total score of MX450 is 2049 and the graphics card score is 1902. This score is very close to the power consumption of 25W. In the Fire Strike test, the total score of MX450 is 4032. The graphics card score is 4453, which is more in line with the results of the 25W standard power consumption version.

In the game test session, we chose the original game. In the game, it runs with the default low-quality preset, and the number of frames in the actual battle scene can be stabilized at around 30 frames, which is not a big problem to deal with relatively mild online games. However, the positioning of this computer is not a gaming notebook. Although it uses a standard pressure processor, the MX series of graphics cards are more carrying audio-visual entertainment.

For example, the RedmiBook Pro has built-in DTS Audio Processing sound effect adjustment software, preset four sound effect modes, namely music, movies, games and custom audio. The user can select different sound effects in the corresponding scene to obtain a better sound performance, or customize the adjustment in the graphic EQ.

After testing the performance, we also conducted a simple baking machine test on the RedmiBook Pro. In the AIDA64 Stress FPU + FurMark Burn in 20-minute baking machine test, the CPU temperature was maintained at 66 degrees, the power consumption was stable at 14W, and the main frequency was at Around 1.6GHz; GPU temperature is also 66 degrees, the frequency is up to 1800MHz, the power consumption is around 18W, the temperature of the C side of the body is not high.

In terms of hard drives, we used CrystalDiskInfo to check and found that its model number is KBG40ZNV512G, and the suffix is KIOXIA. The quality of Kioxia’s SSD is relatively good. We then used CrystalDiskMark to run the score. The final reading and writing results are shown in the figure above.
It’s worth mentioning that RedmiBook Pro’s built-in Xiao Ai voice assistant has a variety of calling methods, and can help users do some trivial tasks, without having to open a specific hierarchical menu to access the functions step by step. In addition, considering the popularity of Xiao Ai in smart homes, using RedmiBook Pro to control home appliances is also a very practical function.

Verdict
The RedmiBook Pro is the first product with the suffix ‘Pro’ under the Redmi brand. This time it chose to work hard on the screen and workmanship to match some of Xiaomi’s own ecological functions, such as the smart interconnection (file exchange) that the previous generation products have already equipped. So if you need a notebook with excellent screen quality, excellent workmanship, and capable of light productivity and audio-visual entertainment, the RedmiBook Pro should be a good choice.
